LACORS refuse to correct inaccurate press release. In 2009 LACORS published the following damning statement in a press release which has lead to growing consumer concern regarding electronic cigarettes. Despite being informed by the industry that the maths applied to their calculation are wildly incorrect they have still refused to publish a retraction: We have prepared the following RESPONSE to ensure that consumers have not been misled by the LACORS press release. 26th July 2009 E-cigs.co.uk response to The Independent article 'Electronic cigarette smokers warned of chemical dangers'. On July 26th, an article entitled ...cigarette smokers warned of chemical dangers' appeared in The Independent newspaper. The article states that electronic cigarettes provide a "smoke-free high" and that a scientific study found them to "contain carcinogens and toxic chemicals such as diethylene glycol, which is found in anti-freeze". It goes on to state that health campaigners are concerned that e liquid flavourings such as strawberry and caramel may appeal to children. The article also contains carefully selected quotes from the FDA (US Food and Drug Administration) who have tested "19 varieties of electronic cigarette" and are "concerned about the safety of these products". We at e-cigs.co.uk would like to take this opportunity to reassure our current and future customers that not a single trace of the chemicals in question were found in our e liquids or electronic cigarette cartridges. In addition, we never have and never will target minors. It states clearly on our Terms and Conditions page that anyone making a purchase from our site must be at least 18 years old or above. A Trading Standards commissioned lab test on e-cigs.co.uk e liquid - the results are back! Trading Standards recently commissioned an independent lab test on e-cigs.co.uk e liquid. This report can be found HERE In fact, not only did the lab report show that our e liquid is completely free of the chemicals mentioned in The Independent article, it also suggested we downgrade the 'Very Toxic' hazard warning on our labels to 'Toxic'. Our take on The Independent article It's our belief that this article is little more than the usual scaremongering by the media and FDA. The FDA report in fact shows that the amount of carcinogens in the products tested were minute when compared with tobacco cigarettes. Even ASH (Action on Smoking and Health) the anti-smoking campaign group, argue that any risk posed by the electronic cigarette is still lower than the risk to health of smoking tobacco cigarettes. Perhaps as suggested, there is a little more going on behind the scenes at the FDA than meets the eye? |
